Our Story

by us, for us

ABRAFRO — the Brazilian Association of Afro-Tourism — is a national representation body: the institutional voice of the segment, connecting diasporic Brazil to the world. ABRAFRO is dedicated to the promotion and coordination of Afro-Tourism in Brazil.
Founded with the purpose of strengthening Black leadership across the tourism industry, ABRAFRO brings together Afro-centric entrepreneurs, guides, communities, cultural producers, and inbound travel operators from across the country.

Our Mission

To strengthen Afro-Tourism as a tool for economic development, cultural recognition, and the promotion of racial equity, connecting Afro-centric entrepreneurs to national and international opportunities.

Our Vision

To become the leading national and international Afro-centric reference in the Afro-Tourism segment, driving the diasporic travel movement and elevating the actors that make up our association.

Our Purposes

ABRAFRO operates strategically and across multiple dimensions to establish Afro-Tourism as a benchmark segment in national and international markets:

• Represent members before the tourism trade, governments, and national and international bodies
• Develop and promote Afro-centric, multi-city itineraries and routes for the diasporic market
• Train segment entrepreneurs in management, sales, and internationalization
• Defend Afro-Brazilian cultural, historical, and intangible heritage
• Build partnerships with public authorities, Embratur, MTur, UNESCO, and the private sector
• Certify best practices in Afro-Tourism and promote the segment’s quality seal
• Organize events, conferences, and exchange programs to strengthen the Afro-centric network
